Hif Anga has been dancing and singing for as long as he can remember. His father was a gifted dancer; his mother sang him the traditional songs of her homeland while carrying him on her back as a small child. Today he passes that treasury of rhythms, songs and stories on in Germany – to children and adults alike.

Dance workshops and courses

Anyone who can move their hips in time with the music is sure to attract a few envious glances. With Hif you learn how to dance to traditional and modern African music without tripping over your own feet – for every age and every level, no experience required.

We start with a lively warm-up and work on isolating individual parts of the body, above all the hips. Every sequence of movements tells a story from everyday life: we hunt antelope, work in the fields, celebrate a feast. After a dance class you feel alive, refreshed and full of new energy.

Drumming, dancing, singing and storytelling at schools

Hif runs courses and project days at schools – mostly primary schools, but also secondary schools and nurseries. The children learn African drumming rhythms and different striking techniques, combine singing with drumming, dance, and listen to stories of wild animals and funny happenings from the Congo.

African dance from the Congo lives on the emphasis of the hips and pelvis, but it involves the whole body. On the basis of traditional rhythms Hif has developed his own choreographies, which he builds up step by step with the pupils. This encourages good posture, teaches social skills and trains both halves of the brain.

In Africa drumming, dancing and singing belong together – which is why Hif combines these elements in his courses too. On request, however, each element can be booked on its own.

For private celebrations too

A round of drumming and dancing is a lovely, community-building activity at birthdays or company parties – it spreads good cheer and stays in the memory for a long time.
